The upcoming vampire RPG, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, will have romance options but if you’re expecting a snuggly vampiric romance like Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3, you might be in for a surprise. Developer The Chinese Room has shed some light on how the bloodthirsty romance options will work in Bloodlines 2.
Speaking to PC Gamer in the latest magazine issue, project creative director Alex Skidmore was asked if there would any romance in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. “There are some romantic options,” he replied. “But vampire romance isn’t the same as human romance, and that’s also an important plot point.” Skidmore described it more as a “kind of romantic feeding” and it’s “probably awful.”
Skidmore did elaborate a bit on that point, stating that there will be some named vampires that you can feed on with “romantic feeding”, though it doesn’t sound like it will be as intimate or sensual as regular romances in video games. Since the whole point about being a vampire is feeding on unsuspecting humans, it will be interesting to see how this process works when the romance is between two vampires.
Bloodlines 2 has faced multiple setbacks in development but after The Chinese Room stepped in to take over the project’s development, things have been progressing smoothly. Yet another delay pushed the anticipated RPG to October this year and hopefully, it doesn’t get delayed any further.
The game’s description reads:
“Blood sustains you and powers your vampiric Disciplines. You’ll stalk and feed on the city’s population by night. Use your supernatural powers or raw persuasion on civilians and lure them into deep, dark alleys to sate your Hunger. Beware of breaking the Masquerade though: do not reveal what you are or you risk reprisals – at first from law enforcement and then, well, remember you are not all that goes bump in this night.”
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 launches in October 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
