Being a student isn’t easy. We have all been there and the struggle is real. Those dinner on a dime evenings and let’s not forget trying to rock the fashion everyone is wearing on campus while lacking the budget to do so. Varsity Vibe hears your cries and has a solution to your problems – a student and youth-based service offering a range of discounts across all the things that matter. Now Telkom has joined forces, the service has become even more attractive.
Varsity Vibe isn’t necessarily a new service but it is growing every day. In short, Varsity Vibe is like an exclusive club that is open to basically everyone who is studying and the youth of South Africa. The service comes in the form of an app that keeps track of the hottest discounts and sales across a range of brands and stores in South Africa. The best news of all, these discounts are offered to only Varsity Vibe users.

Becoming part of the club is free and if you want to unlock even more discounts, the premium subscription costs less than R17 a month. The app is completely usable as a free member and you will gain access to a range of discounts. Be it 10% off at Burger King or 20% off a Typo. However, for just R200 a year, Varsity Vibe then unlocks another god-tier-like range of even more discounts across more stores and retailers.
Varsity Vibe Premium Free With Telkom
You can also become a premium member of Varsity Vibe without paying the subscription if you’re a Telkom user. All you need to do is head on over to the Telkom site here and join the service. You can then become a Varsity Vibe premium user without the R200 annual subscription if you’re an active Telkom customer.
Now that Telkom also covers the premium subscription on Varsity Vibe, users can also benefit from some incredible discounts on data and other Telkom services. This means you can top-up your data and airtime at discounted rates by just being part of the Varsity Vibe club. We all know how expensive data is so this is great news.
Outside of the Telkom discounts, Varsity Vibe users can benefit from other incentives that include:
- Free smoothies with Kauai purchases
- 25% off Gautrain tickets
- 10% off Sorbet treatments
- 25% off at Tiger Wheel and Tyre
- 30% off at Tiger’s Milk
- + More
You can check out the full list of discounts on the official site here. You’ll need to download the app across Android or iOS in order to claim these discounts. It requires a student number to sign-up for a Varsity Vibe account. Standard Bank account holders and anyone with a Telkom number between the ages of 18-24 can also become premium members without being a student. However, Varsity Vibe is open to all students no matter the age so even if you’re pursuing a career later in life, the platform has discounts for you.
Disclaimer – Varsity Vibe and Telkom sent me a gift voucher to use. However, I don’t have a student number so I wasn’t able to claim discounts. The app is usable without a student number but the deals are restricted to Telkom data and airtime packages. Everything else requires a “Freemium” account which is accessible only after verifying your student details. Seen as I don’t have any student number, these discounts weren’t available.
