Sony Pictures has announced that Venom 3 has a new title and it’s coming a bit sooner than expected. The company revealed yesterday that the third installment will officially be titled Venom: The Last Dance and it has a new release date of 25 October 2024, moved up slightly from its initial 8 November date.
Tom Hardy will once again return as Eddie Brock/Venom in Venom: The Last Dance, though he’ll also be joined by Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who reportedly plays the main villain. The story is mostly being kept under wraps though fans speculate that it could have something to do with the end credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw Eddie Brock briefly transported to the Tom Holland MCU timeline before being pulled back.
Venom: The Last Dance will be directed by Kelly Marcel, the screenwriter of the first two Venom movies as well as Saving Mr. Banks and Fifty Shades of Grey. Quite a resume. She also wrote the screenplay and story of Venom 3 with Tom Hardy.
Despite middling critical receptions, 2018’s Venom as well as 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage ended up making over a billion dollars collectively at the box office. It’s currently Sony’s most profitable movies in its Spider-Man Universe (SSU) which, oddly enough, hasn’t featured Spider-Man in a single movie yet. Other movies in the universe include Morbius and Madame Web, which haven’t been met with the most positive receptions either. Sony is also expected to release Kraven the Hunter in August starring Aaron-Taylor Johnson as the titular villain.
Venom was previously featured as one of the primary villains in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The character was voiced by Tony Todd of Final Destination and Candyman fame. As far as Sony’s Spider-Man universe goes, Venom: The Last Dance might be the last movie in the series.
