Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is out today and developer Insomniac Games is already planning ahead with potential spin-offs based on feedback from players. The most discussed point so far is about Venom and whether or not the symbiote will get his own spin-off game. Insomniac says it’s looking at the fans’ reaction to the latest game first to see if the studio should move ahead with it.
Speaking to Insider in a recent interview, Insomniac Games senior narrative designer Jon Paquette was asked about the potential of a Venom spin-off game following the critical success of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Paquette says the studio wants to see fan feedback first before it can decide whether or not to put a Venom game into development. Insomniac is also currently working on another massive Marvel IP, Marvel’s Wolverine.

Paquette’s response about a possible Venom spin-off game reads:
“So, here’s what we’re doing. We’re focused on ‘Spider-Man 2,’ and what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna wait to see how the fans react. We’re gonna listen to the fans and we’re gonna ask ourselves, ‘Okay, what do the fans really want?’ We’ll talk about stuff after we’ve all had time to sleep and take vacations.”
Judging by the reaction from the community so far, fans really want a Venom game from Insomniac. While the lethal protector has appeared in several Spider-Man and Marvel video games over the past few decades, he has never received his own standalone game before. This could be a great opportunity for Insomniac to do what it does best and deliver a compelling single-player Venom game without restraints.
In other news, Hot Toys recently announced almost 21-inches of Venom with its new collectible figure. The pricey figure will set you back almost R9k if you’re willing to take the plunge, though it comes with a bunch of accessories that allows you to customise the symbiote such as tendrils, claws and swap-out tongues.
