Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has done exceptionally well, selling over 4.5 million copies since its launch last month. Publisher Focus Entertainment revealed the sales figures over the weekend, announcing that the action title had managed to surpass expectations and pass a sales milestone.
Developer Saber Interactive’s chief creative officer Tim Willits previously made comments about judging the financial success of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 compared to industry standards. “We don’t need to sell 4 million units to make it [Space Marine 2] a success,” Willits told IGN last month. “There are many games, sadly, especially out of North American developers, where if you do not sell 5 million copies you are a failure. I mean, what business are we in where you fail if you sell less than 5 million?”
Thankfully, the critical success of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 worked in its favour as the game sold 4.5 million copies in under two months, making it a financial success for publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive. While the game features a strong single-player campaign, there’s also PvE and PvP that have kept players coming back well after rolling the credits. As of writing, there are currently over 12,000 concurrent players enjoying the game on Steam. It had an all-time player peak of 225,690 last month.
In case you missed it, Saber Interactive revealed the full Year One roadmap for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 which includes free updates, new cosmetics and a bunch of additional content that will be added to the game gradually over the course of the next 12 months.
The game’s description reads:
“Embody the superhuman skill and brutality of a Space Marine. Unleash deadly abilities and devastating weaponry to obliterate the relentless Tyranid swarms. Defend the Imperium in spectacular third-person action in solo or multiplayer modes.”
