PS5 Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Platinum Trophy Haptic Feedback DualSense

Watch 16 Minutes of Glorious Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart PS5 Gameplay

During the PS5 State of Play stream hosted in the late hours of last night, Sony showcased a massive chunk of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart PS5 gameplay. The showcase not only took players through some of the “reimagined” worlds in the game but also touched on the various ways the game takes advantage of the PS5 hardware. Oh, and Ratchet now has a range of cool new moves including grappling into rifts, dashing from side to side and even wall-running.

Sony says that the game is not only a love letter to long-time fans of the series but also great for newcomers. Players who are accustom to the series will be able to enjoy loads of fan-favourite returns. These could be returning weapons, or even going back to old planets which are now tweaked thanks to the whole “multiple dimension” situation.

The gameplay showcase is quite impressive. Not only does it look like great fun to play but the sheer scale of the game and the attention to detail puts a lot of video games on the market to shame. Just standing in the city centre of a Dr Nefarious planet shows off the power of the PS5. There are hundreds of flying vehicles in the sky, dozens of robots walking around doing daily tasks and every object is rendered beautifully. It is truly a “next-gen” game.

Of course. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart also comes with new weapons. Insomniac Games revealed a handful including blasters, shotguns, some strange air pump thingie and more. These weapons are all purchased through a new vendor which is none other than Ms Zurkon. Fans of the series will know Mr Zurkon being a deployable robot that could fight alongside Ratchet when used.

Weapons also make use of the DualSense controller. Pulling the trigger down halfway will create one fire method while pulling it down fully will make use of another. There is a lot to unpack and look forward to in the upcoming Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart on PS5. Grab some coffee and watch the trailer. Keep in mind that it is in 4K so you want to watch it on a compatible display to take in all the beauty.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart releases on 11 June 2021 for PS5.
