The upcoming live-action Watch Dogs movie has wrapped up filming, ten years after the movie project was initially announced. Ubisoft made the announcement on social media that the movie adaptation of its popular action/adventure video game series recently wrapped filming, suggesting that we’ll begin to hear more about the movie in the coming months.
Production on the Watch Dogs movie has been quite secretive, though we know it will be directed by Mathieu Turi, who previously worked as an assistant director on Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. It will also star The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actor Tom Blyth in the lead role alongside Sophia Wilde, who acted in last year’s indie horror hit, Talk to Me. It’s unclear if Blyth will be playing the first game’s protagonist, Aiden Pearce, or a new character created for the movie.
Meanwhile, Turi is also in the process of developing a TV series based on the Plague Tale games, so his adventures in adapting games into live-action projects will continue after Watch Dogs.

The first Watch Dogs game was released in 2013 and received mostly mixed to positive reviews for its gameplay, though was also criticised for its visual downgrades when compared to the marketing material and a lacklustre story. A sequel, Watch Dogs 2, was released in 2016 to a better reception. The third and last game in the series, Watch Dogs: Legion, launched in 2020 but received divisive reviews.
The Watch Dogs movie began filming in July this year, so it seems to have had a speedy production time. Of course, it still has to go through a lengthy post-production process in the editing, VFX and mixing departments before it can be shipped off to cinemas. Ubisoft hasn’t revealed a release date for the movie yet.
