Warner Bros. Games is restructuring yet again, this time to refocus its efforts on four key franchises: Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and DC. The company-wide overhaul will see a leadership shake-up but it apparently won’t lead to any layoffs of executive stepping down. Instead, three WB Games veterans will be promoted to leadership positions within the company’s gaming division.
As reported by Variety, Warner Bros. Games Montreal studio head Yves Lachance will be promoted to senior vice president of WB Games to watch over the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones franchises. Meanwhile, NetherRealm Studios’ Shaun Himmerick will be promoted to oversee Mortal Kombat and DC. Warner Bros. Games New York’s Steven Flenory will also be promoted to senior vice president, central tech & services and manage publishing technology, customer service, quality assurance and user research.
Global Streaming & Games CEO J.B. Perrette released a statement:
“Our company is home to some of the biggest franchises in the world, and we are optimising our team structure to develop long-term franchise roadmaps to delight players and fans of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat and DC games. We are very fortunate to have a strong stable of development and technology talent, and Yves, Shaun and Steven are respected leaders with excellent track records in their areas of expertise. I’m looking forward to working closely with them and the team as we work to make the best games possible for our key franchises.”
After the middling launches of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and MultiVersus (not to mention fans being particularly upset about the way post-launch support had been handled for Mortal Kombat 1), a shake-up is exactly what WB Games needs right now. Hopefully it doesn’t lead to cancelled projects like its Wonder Woman game.
NetherRealm Studios is rumoured to be working on Injustice 3 while Avalanche Software is moving forward with a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.
