Westworld Mobile Game Shutting Down After Bethesda Lawsuit

Some of you may remember the Westworld mobile game that released in early 2018. Those of you who don’t, Warner Bros. Entertainment released a mobile game based on the popular HBO series. However, it seemed that it was a direct copy-and-paste of Bethesda’s Fallout Shelter mobile game as the code and even the bugs found in Fallout Shelter were present in this Westworld game.

Bethesda filed a lawsuit and it seems that it worked as the game has been pulled off the App Store and Google Play and all in-app purchases have been disabled for those people with the game downloaded. This after the lawsuit claimed that the game and its entire setting and gameplay mechanics were a blatant copy of Fallout Shelter.

There is nothing wrong with copying a video game concept but the law does prevent you from copying game code directly from another game.

The Westworld Mobile Twitter account officially announced the game’s shutdown saying:

“We are sorry to see the Westworld mobile game go, and had an incredible time creating new content and events for players to enjoy. We deeply appreciate our community’s enthusiasm and participation in the game.”

Those of you who are still playing the game have until 16 April 2019 to finish off your in-game purchases and enjoy the game as it will officially go offline on that day.

Warner Bros. Entertainment gave hints of this shut down late last year as the forums were disabled for the game in December with no support or news of game updates in the works. The last update for the game dropped in October 2018 and since then, the development came to a standstill.
