What To Do and Who to Contact if Your PS5 Breaks in South Africa

The PS5 is out in South Africa and if you are a new adopter then you most likely want to know what to do with the console should it break in and out of warranty. Thankfully, the process to repair and replace the PS5 in South Africa is very much the same as it has been for both the PS4 and PS3. In short, PartServe is appointed as the official channel for the console. If anything happens, you will need to contact them for support.

PS5 12 Month Warranty in South Africa

Every new PlayStation 5 console in South Africa comes with a 12-month warranty. This warranty covers everything you get inside the box including the DualSense Controller, stand and other peripherals. In addition, every official PS5 accessory you purchase also comes with a 12-month warranty. However, the return and refund process differs for each.

PS5 Console and Box Contents

Before we start, the most important part of your PS5 console and accessories is proof of purchase. You can’t exchange anything or request a refund without it. Don’t lose it!!!

When it comes to the PS5 and everything you get inside the box, the 12-month warranty is broken down into different options. Depending on when you purchased the console will depend on what procedure you need to follow. These are as follows;

  • If your console is less than a month old
    • A customer can request that their PS5 console is changed within the first month of purchase. This has to be done at the original retailer where they bought the console. The customer has to provide the proof of purchase and it has to be valid. The retail outlet or PartServe will inspect the console and Gamefinity will authorize the exchange in writing.
  • If your console is older than a month old but still under 12 months old
    • The customer can request that the retail outlet sends the PS5 to PartServe and exchanges the unit another console. They can also take the unit to PartServe themselves. The console needs to be sent with the original proof of purchase. PartServe then inspects the console and if approved, they will send the replacement to the same retail outlet or issue the exchange to the customer.
  • Refund request within 6 months of purchase at a retailer
    • Customers can request a refund for their PS5 console if it has been less than 6 months since the purchase date.
    • PartServe needs to verify the proof of purchase as well as the serial number on the console
    • PartServe then examines the PS5 console and the box contents to assess the value of the refund
    • Gamefinity then contacts the retailer to notify them of the total value of credit the consumer will receive with their refund
    • The refund will only be approved once the console and packaging have been examined and the retailer has received authorization from GameFinity to process the refund. The total value is determined by the state of the packaging, quality of the accessories and general wear and tear.

PS5 Extra Accessories

Each PS5 accessory includes its own unique 12-month limited warranty. This covers the DualSense Controller, Headset and more. Keep in mind that this also covers the accessories you get inside your PS5 console box so if you have issues with the included DualSense controller, you need to follow these steps below.

  • Original DualSense Controller (from inside the box)
    • If the controller is defective within the 12-month warranty then the consumer is to take the device to PartServe for an exchange. Valid proof of purchase is required
  • DualSense or other official PS5 accessories (purchased separately)
    • The consumer can either take the accessory to PartServe or ask for an exchange at the original retailer. Valid proof of purchase is required.

What Can Void Your PS5 Warranty?

A handful of things can cause your console to lose its warranty even if it is less than 12 months old. This includes water damage, any illegal console modifications, drop damage and accessing the inside of the console (faceplate removal does not void your PS5 warranty). Keep in mind that other factors not listed here may void your warranty too.

PS5 Console Exchange Out of Warranty (13th Month)

So what happens when your PS5 is more than 12 months old? At the moment no one is dealing with that situation. However, Gamefinity and PartServe will follow the same procedure as they did for the PS4 and PS3. This means that customers can get their PS5 exchanged for bulk cash-in exchange. The total amount has yet to be decided by Gamefinity. If past consoles are anything to go off, users can expect to pay at least 50% of the original console’s price. Currently, the price list for older hardware is as follows;

  • PS4 500GB – R3,200
  • PS4 1TB – R3,200
  • PS4 Pro – R4,100
  • PS VR – R4,100

Of course, users can also opt to get the console repaired themselves at third-party repair shops. Keep in mind that those “after repair” warranties are not covered by Gamefinity and your original retailer.

    hi does anyone else find it funny that as soon as its the 13th month your PS5 stops working and the partserve says to you that you can bring to them and pay them R5800 and they will sort it out for you

    this sounds fishy and like a scam that its fails after 13 months
