Meta has already added its Bitmoji-style avatars to Instagram and Messenger and now they are coming to WhatsApp too. According to the latest beta details in the new Android version of WhatsApp, an Avatar category has been added to the app.
Using this new setting, users can now set up and customize digital versions of themselves to use in WhatsApp. This is similar to the feature found Meta’s other apps. WhatsApp then takes this avatar design and generates sticker packs with the avatar in different poses. Users can then use these stickers during chats to express themselves with friends and family.
WhatsApp is releasing the ability to set up an avatar to some lucky beta testers on WhatsApp beta for Android!

We kind of knew this feature was going to roll out at some point or another. The code was listed in the previous beta for WhatsApp last month. However, the new beta version actually has the settings and avatar creator added to the app.
At the moment we don’t know what the plan is to roll this out publically. We also don’t know what Meta’s plan is to release it on iOS. However, avatars on the Meta platforms are nothing new. In fact, they were first introduced on Messenger and Facebook News Feed in 2019. They were then added to Facebook stories and Instagram in 2020 after getting a new 3D design.
Apple hosts its own avatar system on iOS that can be used in WhatsApp already. It is almost identical to the Android version added to the latest beta f WhatsApp. This is likely why the feature is being tested on the Android version instead of iOS.
