WhatsApp is about to get some new features which hopefully, will make the platform a bit more private when it comes to status viewing. Meta says that the latest features focus on privacy. Specifically around limiting who can see your status and post voice messages.
The new WhatsApp features also come with the ability to react to statuses similar to what you can on Instagram. Users can choose one of eight reactions when viewing a status and the owner will get the response. According to Meta, emoji reactions are the no.1 requested feature from users after the company releases the ability to react to messages last year.

One new feature which many of you may like is the new Private Audience Selector. Instead of publishing a status that anyone with your number can see, the new Private Audience Selector will let you pick and choose a set number of contacts to share it with. You can make default lists such as “close friends” or “family” and when publishing a status, only those people in that list will see it.
Meta is also making it clearer as to who has a WhatsApp status to see by adding a ring around your profile image no matter where it appears. This means chat lists and chat groups will include your ring photo.
Meta is also tweaking a few other features in WhatsApp. Statuses with links will be “visually appealing” according to Meta. You’ll also be able to preview the site for the link where the page will take you.
The move towards WhatsApp statuses might make some users happy. I personally don’t post statuses on WhatsApp at all. I don’t even look at other people’s statuses either. But those who do, might enjoy the ability to have a more private life.
