WhatsApp is testing a new feature in its current beta that lets groups of up to 32 people connect for a spoken session. Essentially, this will allow 32 people to talk in the group at any given time and you can jump in and out of the chat whenever you want.
The beta notes describe this feature to sound similar to Discord chats. There’s the convenience of not having your phone ring when a chat starts. You will simply see the waveform icon over the group and know the voice chat session is currently underway.

The WhatsApp feature also remains active for the duration set by the administrator. Everyone can come and go as they please. According to the beta, these sessions are limited to 60 minutes. The notes also confirm these sessions are end-to-end encrypted.
The feature is expected to release in the coming weeks. WhatsApp says it will even roll out for non-beta users in certain areas before releasing to the masses.
