The upcoming Xbox Series X console will come with a so-called “new” controller which looks exactly the same as the Xbox One controller but with a few new added design features. For one, it has a new d-pad and a textured trigger grip. One thing that has not changed is its need for AA batteries in order to power the controller. Yes, Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox Controller still uses AA batteries just as all past controllers from the company. But why would they still stick to them?

According to Eurogamer, Xbox partner director Jason Ronald revealed that according to Xbox fans, the preferences between sticking to AA batteries versus using a built-in rechargeable battery was split nearly evenly. Microsoft claims that sticking to AA batters is an effort to please both camps as people can still buy rechargeable battery packs for the controller.

Microsoft also touched on the “slight” changes users will find on the Xbox Series X Controller. These include parts of the controller that have been shrunk in some areas in order to make it more comfortable for everyone. The company claimed that they did not change the controller radically because people generally like it and are used to it. It came down “muscle memory.” If the Xbox Series X Controller has other changes to it, they have yet to be seen. Microsoft may have other features they have yet to announce for the device but we will have to wait and see what they are.
