EA Originals and Koei Tecmo have released 7 minutes of brand new gameplay footage for its upcoming hunting game, Wild Hearts. The gameplay goes over a lot of the mechanics originally introduced in the game’s reveal trailer, including the ancient mechanisms called Karakuri and the various nature-infused monsters called Kemono.
Wild Hearts is not too different to Capcom’s Monster Hunter or Koei Tecmo’s own Toukiden series. Players will need to hunt an assortment of beasts called Kemono who seemingly threaten the natural order of the world around them. Up to three players can team up in co-op across all platforms for hunts.

The setting will be a unique blend of feudal Japan and fantasy, taking place in the fictional Azuma. Players take on the role of hunters during this period that must hunt Kemono with Karakuri, mechanisms crafted from a lost, ancient technology. The Karakuri can transform into helpful contraptions for a variety of uses, which certainly adds another element of strategy to each hunt.
Wild Hearts is being developed by Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force, best known for the Dynasty Warriors series. It will also be published under EA Originals.
Yosuke Hayashi, executive vice president of Koei Tecmo, talked a bit about the company’s partnership with EA in a previous post:
“The EA team fully embraces our creative independence and have become invaluable partners offering both development and publishing support. Adding the global resources of EA with our own will help us introduce a new kind of hunting game to a global audience of players and expand our reach into global markets. I’m really looking forward to the day that gamers from around the world can play this new game.”
Wild Hearts is expected to release on 17 February 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Check out the extended gameplay footage below.
