During its Microsoft hardware reveal event yesterday, the Windows OS maker revealed a brand new iteration of the platform called Windows 10X. This new variant of Windows 10 has been designed to run on dual-screen and foldable devices of which the company announced a handful of them at the same time.

Windows 10X has a number of tweaks to the OS that makes it more touch-friendly but mainly, it is designed to work across screens. For starters, the Start Menu includes apps you can pin in place and a list of recent documents and apps. This interface kind of acts like a home page within a home page.

Most striking of all is the lack of Live Tiles, something Microsoft has pushed quite strongly since Windows 7. Instead of Live Tiles, you will have a range of apps and documents at your fingertips to get you started on work right away.

The OS seems to pride itself on the clean design and dual-screen functionality that allows foldable devices to throw apps and documents across from one screen to another as if you are working on two displays but in your hand instead of on your desk.

Windows 10X is still in early testing and so are the new foldable devices namely the Windows Surface Neo which is Microsoft’s new dual-screen device that looks like a notebook when closed and when open, it features a display on both insides of the device.

The Microsoft Surface Neo was not the only device the company revealed. The Surface Duo Phone is a new foldable phone which acts as a smaller and phone version of the Neo. The Surface Duo does not run Windows 10X though, rather a modified Android OS. The Surface Duo Phone can rotate 360 degrees and features a dual-screen experience.
