Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, the upcoming action-RPG from Nioh developer Team Ninja, has received a Mature 17+ rating from the ESRB along with the confirmation that it will contain in-game purchases of some kind. The rating itself mentions a variety of weapons that players can use to violently kill enemies featuring plenty of blood-splatter effects and corpses.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will take a decidedly different approach to Team Ninja’s Nioh series as it will shift its setting to Chinese mythology instead of Japanese mythology. For the most part, the gameplay is a bit faster-paced and revolves around breaking enemy posture (similar to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice) and encountering an assortment of creatures lifted out of the Chinese mythological setting.

The ESRB recently published its official rating and description for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty:
“This is an action game in which players join a large-scale battle against an evil sorcerer in Late Han Dynasty China. From a third-person perspective, players use swords, spears, hammers, magic, and clubs in melee combat against enemies (e.g., soldiers, demons, ghouls). Combat is fast-paced, highlighted by large blood-splatter effects, screams of pain, and explosions. Finishing moves sometimes depict characters dramatically impaled on swords or lances. Several scenes depict multiple corpses and/or large pools/smears of blood.”
The rating also mentions in-game purchases but these could be strictly cosmetic as the game is single-player focused and shouldn’t disrupt the gameplay or balance of the game in any drastic way, though we’ll have to see how this plays out when the game launches.
Upon its announcement, Microsoft confirmed that the game would be coming day one to Xbox Game Pass for both Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S (as well as PC). Nioh and its sequel are exclusive to PlayStation consoles though both games also received releases on PC.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty launches on 3 March 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
