Team Ninja says a sequel to its 2023 action-RPG, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, is unlikely to happen – at least not anytime soon. The developer currently has no plans to produce a follow-up, though it stopped short of completely ruling it out too.
In an interview with TouchArcade, Team Ninja producer Masakazu Hirayama said that a sequel to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty isn’t on the table at the moment as most of the developer’s efforts in 2023 were on creating DLC’s for the game on top of frequent updates. However, Hirayama added that the historical period that takes place after Wo Long is ripe for exploration in a game, so there’s hope for a follow-up, though it might take a completely different form.
“We have no plans for a sequel at this stage, as our focus in fiscal 2023 was on the DLCs and updates. On top of that, I feel that the historic period after the one set in Wo Long has its own unique attraction as the era of strategists, and we have a desire to depict it with action and in a story, so we’d like to take on this challenge if the opportunity arises.”
Team Ninja is currently focused on Rise of the Ronin, a PS5 exclusive that takes the studio’s familiar gameplay into an open-world setting. PlayStation recently debuted a gameplay overview for the title which highlighted traversal, exploration and stylish combat complete with different stances, parrying and counters that have become a staple in Team Ninja’s combat design.
Meanwhile, Lies of P players will soon get the opportunity to use a weapon and some gear from Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty in an upcoming collaborative DLC that’s free to all players and platforms.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’s also available on Xbox Game Pass.
