Microsoft has announced a new Xbox Developer Direct showcase for Thursday, 23 January featuring a handful of titles set to release on the platform this year. The showcase will also include a mystery title from “another studio’s brand new game”, which many reports suggest could be the rumoured remaster or remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
The next Developer Direct will take place on Thursday, 23 January 2025 at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern / 6pm UK or 8pm CAT. Microsoft explained in a blog post that fans “will get an inside look at a selection of highly anticipated games coming to Xbox Series X/S, PC and Game Pass players this year.”
Compulsion Games will offer a closer look at South of Midnight while id Software will have something in store for DOOM: The Dark Ages. Sandfall Interactive will also showcase Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The fourth title remains a mystery but Xbox says it will “visit a surprise location to see another studio’s brand new game.”
All signs point to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake or remaster, which was leaked back in July 2023 then reported on again in December 2024. The game is rumoured to be developed by Virtuos Studios, the company behind the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It was also leaked in a Microsoft document accidentally published as part of the FTC versus Microsoft trial over the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, where an unannounced remaster of Fallout 3 was also listed.
Last year’s Xbox Developer Direct showcase featured Avowed, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Ara: History Untold and Indiana Jones and The Great Circle – with the exception of Avowed, all of these titles managed to release in 2024. Obsidian Entertainment’s fantasy action-RPG is scheduled to release this year but it won’t be part of the new Developer Direct.
