Early this month, we reported on PlayStation Worldwide Studio boss Shawn Layden’s departure and one day later, the head of PlayStation Japan also announced his retirement. Now, it is Microsoft’s turn, as the Xbox Corporate Vice President and one of the most recognizable faces of Xbox, Mike Ybarra, is leaving Microsoft.

Mike Ybarra announced his departure in a series of tweets on Twitter and it was met with good wishes from not only fans but the big names at Microsoft as well, including Phil Spencer, Major Nelson and others. Although we don’t know where Mr Ybarra is going next, this won’t be the end of his career in the gaming industry by the looks of it and he even mentions his “next adventure”.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#16EBD9″ class=”” size=”20″] After 20 years at Microsoft, it’s time for my next adventure. It’s been a great ride at Xbox and the future is bright. Thanks to everyone at TeamXbox, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished and I wish you the best. More soon on what’s next for me (super excited)!
Most importantly I want to thank all of you fellow gamers, and our great fans, for all the support. Keep gaming and I hope to see you online soon! [/perfectpullquote]
Mike Ybarra oversaw Xbox Life, Xbox Game Pass and Mixer since 2017 and has held various positions within Microsoft and has been a recognizable face in the company for Xbox fans out there. Microsoft has, at the time of writing, not announced a replacement for Mr Ybarra but judging from the fan response on Twitter, he will be missed at the company.
