Xbox Game Pass and Series X Price Hike Announced For South Africa

Microsoft is raising the price of Xbox Game Pass and the Xbox Series X console. The price hike is taking place globally with only a few regions remaining the same. Starting in July, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will increase by a small amount and the Xbox Series X console will go up by $50 in August.

While the new local price for the Xbox Series X has not been confirmed yet, the $50 hike will likely see the console go from R11,999 to R12,499. This is aligned with Sony’s PS5 price hike of 2022 which saw the disc model (which is the same price as the Xbox Series X) go from R11,999 to R12,499.

At the moment, Microsoft is keeping the Xbox Series S price the same with no increase on the cards yet. This means the console will still sell for $299 or R6,999.

As for the price of Xbox Game Pass in South Africa, it will also cost you a bit more. The price increase comes into effect on 13 August for existing members. However, new Xbox Game Pass subscribers will start paying the higher price rate from 6 July.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will now cost South Africans R129 per month and R89 for the Xbox Game Pass console version.

We will update this post with the new Xbox Series X console price as soon as we get local confirmation.
