Xbox Game Pass Family Plan Starts Testing Phase

Microsoft has kicked off testing for the much-rumoured Xbox Game Pas family plan. The subscription will allow subscribers to share their Game Pass benefits with other people similar to how Microsoft handles its Office 365 Family Plan. Unfortunately, Microsoft is testing the new Xbox Game Pass Family Plan service in very limited regions. At the moment, it is only available in Colombia and Ireland.

If you are an Xbox user in either of those regions you can sign up for the Xbox Game Pass family plan by enrolling in the Xbox Insider Preview. The app will have an option to add the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate family plan to your subscription. Of course, you’ll have to purchase your membership or convert your current time remaining on the service to the new plan.

Similar to how Sony handled its PlayStation Plus service and converted users to the new membership tiers, Microsoft will do the same with the new Xbox Game Pass Family Plan. For example, a full month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is converted to 18 days of the new family membership. You can also sign up for the new plan and pay €21.99 a month.

Once signed up, users can then head on over to the Microsoft Account page to send their four invites to their family members through email or generate links which can also add them to the service.

Microsoft has been hinting at a new Xbox Game Pass family plan tier for a while now. It is just a matter of time before the service launches in new regions. On the official announcement, Microsoft’s Tyler Mittleider detailed some of the information you’ll need to know when signing up. He also shared words on the launch of the service:

We’re always looking for ways to deliver experiences that offer players more choice and value in how they discover and experience games with their community. Starting today in Colombia and Ireland, Xbox Insiders can begin to preview a plan that allows multiple people to share Game Pass Ultimate benefits. This makes it even easier to play the best Game Pass games with friends and family across console, PC, and cloud by enabling you to add up to four people to your subscription, all with their own unique access to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate games, content, and benefits.

We will share a local release date and pricing when this plan eventually makes its way out of testing.
