Microsoft is expanding its Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family plan across six new countries today and South Africa is one of them. The service will let users share Game Pass benefits with up to five players for a discounted price.
The Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family plan started rolling out in certain regions last year and has yet to hit the UK and United States. Thankfully, Microsoft’s “smaller rollout” means the company targeted South Africa as a country to receive the service in its early stages.

In order to use the service, you’ll need to be in the same country as the owner of the plan. Of course, given that Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family plan supports five users, it costs more than your typical Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family costs R199 per month in South Africa. This is compared to the R119 it would cost to own the standard subscription. Microsoft also allows users to convert their current single plan to the new larger plan. The upgrade will take your one month (30 days) and convert into 18 days of Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family.
You can sign up or upgrade your Game Pass membership in South Africa by visiting this link here.
Here is a rundown of the plan:
- The people you share your membership with must reside in the same country as you.
- Joining this plan will convert the time remaining on your membership to time in the new plan, based upon the monetary value of the old membership. For example, a full month of Ultimate will be converted to 18 days of membership for this plan. This way you won’t lose any of the remaining value on your existing subscription. Conversion is final, and users must wait for their new membership to expire before returning to a previous membership.
- Conversion is not available for invited group members. Before joining a group, a group member can cancel their existing subscription or wait for it to expire. If they do not have a Microsoft account, invited friends and family will have to create a new Microsoft account and sign in with it to participate.
- Members with Xbox All Access (in supported countries) won’t be able to participate in this plan.
