Microsoft is dropping the price of Xbox Game Pass in South Africa. The decrease covers both console and PC Xbox Game Pass which is great news no matter where you play on.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which is the most expensive, is going down by R30 per month while the other two standard subscriptions are seeing a R20 drop. We also have some interesting information about a monthly tiered Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription that you might want to keep in mind.
Xbox Game Pass South Africa Pricing
The new Xbox Game Pass South African price is as follows:
- Xbox Game Pass (Consoles) – R79 (was R99)
- Xbox Game Pass (PC) – R79 (was R99)
- Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – R119 (was R149)
Interestingly enough, a while back we spotted a post on the local Xbox community group about this price drop. The post was uploaded on 2 February and has since been deleted. However, the user accurately leaked the price drop for Xbox Game Pass but we didn’t believe it until the official announcement took place. Now that it has, there might be some credibility to the monthly tiered prices too.
The post on a local Xbox Facebook group, which accurately revealed this price drop before its official announcement, listed a 3, 6, 12 and 24-month subscription for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. However, Microsoft doesn’t offer more than a monthly subscription for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate so I don’t know how true this post is.
Perhaps Microsoft is ramping up to announce larger tiers for the service? Take it with a pinch of salt for now but this is what the post claimed would be the pricing for the service.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
- 1 Month – R119
- 3 Month – R359
- 6 Month – R719
- 12 Month – R1,429
- 24 Month – R2,859
The post also quoted Xbox South Africa saying:
“We regularly evaluate the price of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold at a local level to best serve customers in each country. These price adjustments were informed and based on local market conditions in each country.”
Again, I don’t know how true this is or perhaps someone was just getting overly excited about the price drop. However, we do know that the monthly prices have dropped so at least there’s that.
