Microsoft has confirmed a new Xbox Games Showcase will take place this June followed by a Direct event straight after that will focus on The Outer Worlds 2 from Avowed and Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment. Both events will be livestreamed in June 2025 which typically contains new game reveals, announcements and exciting world premieres.
The Xbox Games Showcase for 2025 will take place on 8 June at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern / 6pm UK or 7pm SAST. Microsoft says the showcase will feature “looks at upcoming titles from across our first-party studios, in addition to incredible new titles from our third-party partners across the globe.” The Outer Worlds 2 Direct will happen right after the showcase, focusing on “new gameplay, details, and developer insights, straight from the people making the sequel to the award-winning, first-person sci-fi RPG.”
Obsidian Entertainment showed off new gameplay for The Outer Worlds 2 at The Game Awards last year, confirming that it will launch sometime in 2025. Players speculate that the upcoming Direct will offer a concrete release date along with a deeper dive into the game’s mechanics, characters and worlds.
As for what could be shown at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase, it’s all guesswork and theories for now. Microsoft says first-party studios will show up, suggesting we may get a closer look at Gears of War: E-Day, which is currently being co-developed by The Coalition and People Can Fly. There’s also been long-standing rumours about a potential Gears of War Collection, a bundle remastering the first three games in the series, that will also launch on PS5 in addition to Xbox and PC.
Xbox has a number of first-party games currently in the works including Playground Games’ Fable, Clockwork Revolution, Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3, Everwild and Marvel’s Blade from Deathloop studio Arkane Lyon. It’s anyone’s guess if we’ll see most of these at the showcase.
