Microsoft has confirmed that it’s ditching its “next 12 month” time period plans for the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase. Last year, Xbox held a Games Showcase in June that largely focused on games releasing within the next year, which included titles like Redfall and Starfield (though that just missed that 12-month window as it launches this September). As a result, highly anticipated first-party games that were much further off from release weren’t given any attention or presentation.
It looks like Microsoft wants to shift gears this year and not exclusively focus on games releasing within the next 12 months. Instead, we’ll finally (hopefully) get a look at other anticipated first-party games that will only release later this generation, reportedly including titles like Fable, Avowed and Hellblade 2, among others.

Xbox Games VP of Marketing, Aaron Greenberg, confirmed the news on Twitter and stated that there won’t be any “full CGI trailers” for first-party titles. Everything shown from Xbox Game Studios will either be a mix of in-game footage, in-engine footage or in-game footage with some cinematics:
“None of our first party games in the show are full CG trailers. Everything is either in-game footage, in-engine footage, or in-game footage with some cinematics. Each of our trailers will be labeled so it is hopefully clear for our fans.”
This is in stark contrast to the recent PlayStation Showcase which revealed a few new first-party games through CGI trailers with little to show for gameplay or in-engine footage. Fans expressed their disappointment at Sony for the CGI trailers so it’s good that Xbox appears to be addressing that problem beforehand. For many, it’s also about time that we got a proper look at what Xbox’s studios have been up to since the developers have been relatively quiet over the past year.
The Xbox Games Showcase takes place on 11 June at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST / 7pm CET or 7pm CAT.
