Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass South African Price Drops Incoming

In a country where you would think prices would go up, we have some good news. Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be going down in South Africa in early 2020 from R199 per month to R149. The new pricing is as follows;

  • Xbox Gold 1-month – R99 (from R159)
  • Xbox Gold 365 Day – R599 (from R979)
  • Xbox Game Pass monthly – R149 (from R199)

There will, of course, be other bundles you will be able to purchase but Microsoft has yet to send out an official pricing guide yet. In 2016, Microsoft increased the price of Xbox Live from R50 per month to R159 for a one-month subscription. This, making it even more expensive than a monthly PlayStation Plus subscription which costs R109 per month.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate still remains one of the best subscription services on the market offering not only an online multiplayer service but also access to hundreds of the latest games including all (although few) new Xbox game releases and a handful of other newly-released titles for one pricing bundle.

The new Xbox Live Gold and Ultimate price drop is great news for South Africa as it aligns the service up with other subscription services on PC and PlayStation. Hopefully, the price remains the same for a couple of years especially given that the next-gen Xbox Series X promises to take full advantage of the services Microsoft currently offers.
