Xbox has reportedly won the marketing rights for the upcoming Max Payne remakes from Remedy Entertainment. The rumour further suggests that the remakes will be shown in some capacity at The Game Awards this December, so an announcement (and confirmation of this report) is right around the corner.
The leak originates from SaudiGamer, which seems to have a history of industry leaks, though their track record appears to be mixed. In that case, we recommend taking the following information with a pinch of salt. The leaker claims that Xbox has secured the marketing rights to the remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 in collaboration with Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar Games, which originally published the games back in the 2000s.
It’s not a far-fetched rumour considering that Xbox seemingly has a good relationship with Remedy Entertainment, which provided Microsoft with the Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break. Either way, we’ll know if this rumour holds up when The Game Awards airs on 12 December. The Max Payne remakes were officially announced back in April 2022, so enough time has passed for Remedy to have done a lot of work on the projects.
In other news, the latest DLC for Alan Wake 2, The Lake House, has possibly teased the developer’s next game: Control 2. Remedy haven’t exactly confirmed if this is the case, though the DLC seems to hint at the sequel being the next major title from the award-winning studio.
While Alan Wake 2 was a huge critical success and went on to be nominated for several awards at The Game Awards last year including Game of the Year, Remedy said back in February this year that it had yet to turn a profit for the company, selling around 1.3 million units since its launch in October 2023 across PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The studio has yet to provide updated sales stats as of writing.
