Xbox Reportedly Won’t Have Exclusives Going Forward

Xbox reportedly won’t have exclusives going forward as all future first-party games are apparently being planned for PlayStation too. Microsoft has slowly been rolling out multi-platform releases over the last year that includes titles like Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment and Grounded all appearing on other consoles. DOOM: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2 will also launch on PS5 alongside Xbox Series X/S and PC. However, the plan seems to be in full motion now.

The report comes from Windows Central’s Jez Corden, who has a solid track record of insider information and leaks. According to Corden, Xbox is moving away from exclusives – at most, games will be timed exclusives like Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, which is scheduled to release on PS5 in 2025.

“Xbox won’t have exclusives going forward. Everything is timed exclusive at most,” said Corden. “If some games are exclusive it’s gonna be incidental at best, the ‘case by case’ argument is by and large going to be multiplat, timed, and with maybe a few (very few) outliers.”

Corden also responded to a user saying that they didn’t believe Xbox’s upcoming exclusive Fable would also release on PlayStation. He responded, “That game was monstrously expensive. It might not be day one, but it’ll come with the current plan in place imo.”

That leaves the fate of quite a few big upcoming Xbox exclusives up in the air at the moment. Specifically, we don’t know the plans for The Elder Scrolls 6 yet or if it will also be a timed exclusive now. Considering that it’s arguably the most anticipated video game next to GTA 6 right now, Xbox might benefit from having early timed exclusivity. Then again, there are also several PlayStation players looking forward to The Elder Scrolls 6 as well, so the ‘case by case’ assessment by Microsoft could apply here.
