The upcoming Perfect Dark game from Xbox has landed an unexpected new creative director in Insomniac Games’ Brian Horton, who previously worked on Marvel’s Wolverine. While development on Perfect Dark had reportedly hit a few roadblocks over the past few years, Horton’s involvement in the project could be what Xbox needs to bring the game back on track. Meanwhile, new directors have stepped up at Insomniac Games for Marvel’s Wolverine.
As reported by Game File, Brian Horton has joined the development of Perfect Dark at Xbox as its new creative director. Marcus Smith and Mike Daly, the duo that previously led the development of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, have stepped up as the new creative director and game director on Marvel’s Wolverine, respectively. According to the report, the changes at the top of Marvel’s Wolverine‘s development came about as a result of “creative decisions”, though Sony didn’t elaborate on this.
Perfect Dark is currently being co-developed by Microsoft’s The Initiative and Embracer-owned Crystal Dynamics. Horton will apparently be “bringing his wealth of experience to the upcoming reboot of the classic secret agent series”, said an Xbox representative to Game File.
The official description for Perfect Dark reads:
“In the near future, Earth will be struck by a series of global disasters, bringing ecosystems around the world to the verge of collapse. Become Joanna Dark, dataDyne’s elite agent as she hunts down the world’s most wanted criminal, Daniel Carrington to uncover the mysteries behind the technological breakthroughs that could threaten the lives of millions.”
In related news, Marvel’s Wolverine didn’t just lose its creative director. Back in July this year, Mary Kenney, the story lead behind the Marvel game, left Insomniac Games to join CD Projekt Red, presumably to work on either the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel or The Witcher 4. A recent report also claimed that we’d be getting a new trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine soon, with signs pointing to The Game Awards in December.
