XDefiant Gets Another Delay Following a Public Test

Ubisoft has delayed XDefiant again. The shooter was originally slotted to launch in September but failed its console verification process across both PlayStation and Xbox. The studio then resubmitted the game for another test in hopes it would get approved. Sadly, another issue has come to light with the game and it has been further delayed.

XDefiant’s launch has been nothing short of rocky. Ubisoft actually planned to launch the shooter in the “summer”. The studio claimed it was aiming for a June/July launch. By September, which is no longer summer, executive producer Mark Rubin shared the news about the game failing certification on PlayStation and Xbox.

Rubin claimed that an October launch was now “likely” due to the hiccup with the certification. At the moment, we don’t know whether or not the game has actually passed this certification but Rubin says other issues are present which are preventing the game’s launch.

“Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent Public Test Session and continues to stand alongside us as we build XDefiant,” a message on the game’s official Twitter account reads. The PTS once again showed us your appreciation for our fast-paced gunplay, uniquely crafted maps, objective-driven modes, and iconic Faction roster. But it also surfaced some inconsistencies in the game experience that we need to address prior to launching our Preseason. So we’ve made the hard decision to delay the Preseason of XDefiant. The team will continue working to address these issues and testing them to make sure we deliver on our goal of being a best-in-class arcade shooter. We will share more information about Preseason and testing as it comes. Thanks again for your support – we’re working hard to make something really special and we couldn’t do it without you.”

While there’s no new release date for XDefiant (even though we never actually had a date in the first place), perhaps this delay is for the best. With October’s busy launch schedule and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 out in a few weeks, Ubisoft should perhaps hang onto XDefiant until at least December.
