XDefiant Preview Ubisoft

XDefiant Gets Delayed After Failing Console Certification

Ubisoft’s new shooter XDefiant has been in the works for what feels like the longest time now. The shooter was announced back in July 2021 and has been through multiple beta tests both open and closed. Ubisoft says the game is almost ready to launch. In fact, they even submitted it to Sony and Microsoft for testing before rolling it out globally.

Unfortunately, XDefiant didn’t pass its recent console certification. In a blog post, executive producer Mark Rubin says the certification would allow Ubisoft to release XDefiant by the end of August. Of course, that didn’t happen.

Failing a certification from Sony and Microsoft means the game didn’t get through the basic console features expected from the hardware. This includes basic features such as the friend list loading, trophies tracking during gameplay and other console-specific tasks games come with.

Whatever is wrong with XDefiant, these boxes weren’t ticked when tested on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

“Compliance bugs are ones that relate to the systems and overall experience that the first parties expect from games on their platform. (e.g., Are trophies being properly tracked, is my friend’s list being properly updated with game status, etc.),”

Ubisoft says it plans on submitting an updated version of XDefiant to both Sony and Microsoft in the next couple of weeks to hopefully get it vetted and approved soon. At the moment, if the build gets compiled, tested and approved, XDefiant will aim to launch by the end of October.

Ubisoft says that even if there are a few issues with the game, the studio can aim to produce a day-one update to fix them too. In the meantime, this would let them submit the game for testing while they work on the promised fixes. As a result, it saves time.

“There is however a likely scenario where we get a conditional Pass meaning we have to do a Day 1 patch with some final fixes to ensure compliance. If we do need to do a Day 1 patch, then that pushes our date out to early/mid-October.”

XDefiant is Ubisoft’s love letter to Ubisoft as we previously said in our hands-on preview of the game.
