XDefiant Preview Ubisoft

XDefiant Goes Live With Preseason Content – Everything You Need to Know

If you haven’t heard the news yet, XDefiant is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. After multiple betas and tests, the game is now available globally with South African servers too.

At launch, XDefiant is a pretty robust package. Ubisoft has shipped the free-to-play, fast-paced shooter with 14 maps, 24 weapons, 44 attachments and five devices. There are also five factions which are inspired by popular Ubisoft franchises.

These factions include The Cleaners (The Division), Libertad (Far Cry 6), Echelon (Splinter Cell), DedSec (Watch Dogs 2) and Phantoms (Ghost Recon Phantoms). Each faction includes three characters but only one is available at the start of your career. You can unlock further characters and factions through in-game missions.

XDefiant is a shooter and it includes two game modes at launch – Arena and Linear. However, each game mode comes with its own style of matches. Arena, for example, includes three styles of matches while Linear includes two.

Arena Matches

  • In Domination, teams fight to control three fixed zones.
  • In Occupy, teams fight to control one zone that periodically moves around the map.
  • In HotShot players fight to get the most KOs (in HotShot, points are only granted or denied when players collect tags from fallen foes or allies. Furthermore, the player currently holding the most tags before the HotShot and is granted a host of speed buffs, but is marked on the map for all to see)

Linear Matches (attacking or defending zones)

  • Zone Control, for example, has the attacking team working to secure five zones in a progression across the map, while defenders must fight to stop them.
  • In Escort, the attacking team must bring a package to its final destination across the map, while the defenders attempt to stymie their progress, and even push the package back.

XDefiant has also launched with its preseason battle pass. The pass includes various cosmetics for the game’s content. You can unlock skins for the available characters, weapon skins and more. Check out the trailer for the content below:
