Nintendo has released a new trailer for the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. The game is an upcoming remaster of the Wii U RPG and set to launch on 20 March. While the game’s visuals have received a subtle upgrade, the real excitement in the Definitive Edition is the new gameplay changes, UI, and post-game content.
First off, we have the UI. If you played the original game on the Wii U, you’ll remember that Xenoblade Chronicles X was an overly cluttered mess, and it was incredibly difficult to see what was going on. This was especially true for combat.
Thankfully, the UI has been revamped across all aspects of the game. During the trailer, we see that the objective tab is now larger and doesn’t have a transparent background. The waypoint guide has also been tweaked. No longer is the guide a tiny globe of light that vanishes before you can see where it is going. Now, the guide is a long stream of energy that will help you navigate around the world.
As for the combat UI, it is still pretty huge. The UI takes up a lot of screen space, but this time it has been cleaned up. Most of the game’s information has been consolidated into smaller tabs. For example, status icons and gauges are now under the player icon instead of next to them. Skill information is also clearer and easier to read. There’s also an overdrive tutorial that is always available during combat but can be toggled off.
Of course, because there’s no GamePad, Nintendo has also added a map screen to Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition that is easier to see and navigate around. It goes without saying that fans, like myself, are rejoicing at these changes.
Nintendo didn’t share any more information about Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition and sadly, only teased the new area in the game. The teaser is right at the end of the trailer and shows off a floating island sort of map.
We’ll have to wait and see how the game performs when it launches on Nintendo Switch on 30 March 2025. Check out the trailer below:
