Yakuza 0 Kiwami 2 Xbox Game Pass Returned

Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 Have Returned to Xbox Game Pass

Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 have all been added back to the Xbox Game Pass library again. The three titles were removed from the subscription service in December 2021, but now it looks like they’ve returned without any proper announcement.

As spotted by XGP, all three Yakuza titles that were previously removed from Xbox Game Pass have returned to the service, possibly ahead of any official announcement from Microsoft or SEGA. Xbox has yet to confirm its July 2022 release slate, so it’s possible that this was meant to be one of the reveals that appeared on the line-up ahead of schedule. (UPDATE: Xbox has officially confirmed Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2‘s reappearance on Game Pass).

With the return of these three games, it means that the entire Yakuza series is once again playable on Xbox Game Pass. Currently, players can enjoy every single mainline Yakuza game up until Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Kiwami 1 and 2 were remakes of the first two Yakuza games, while Yakuza 0 acted as a prequel.

In related Yakuza news, developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is already in the process of developing a Yakuza: Like a Dragon sequel, which will be the eighth mainline installment. The series mostly moved on from protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, who was the former protagonist of the series up until Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. Like a Dragon replaced Kiryu with newcomer Ichiban Kasuga as the protagonist, who will likely be the new face of future Yakuza games.

The sudden return of Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 could be attributed to high fan demand. The three titles were also the missing link for newcomers to get into the franchise through Xbox Game Pass, so it’s possible that SEGA took note of this and decided to add the games back into the Game Pass library.

Either way, the Yakuza series deserves more recognition and it’s great to see it returning to a service that’s widely accessible.
