As expected, those of you who redeemed Days Gone through PlayStation Plus won’t be able to take advantage of the cheap $10 upgrade fee when the upcoming “Remastered” version of the game arrives on PS5.
Days Gone was originally given away to players as part of the PlayStation Plus Collection. If you don’t know, this was a collection of games provided to all PlayStation Plus subscribers who purchased a PS5 console at launch. The collection included a number of titles across first-party and third-party games. Days Gone was part of this collection. The package of games was removed as a service a year after the PS5 console launched.
This is not the first time Sony has restricted an upgrade for a “remastered” release. A similar situation happened with Final Fantasy VII Remake when Square Enix released the PS5 upgrade. Users who managed to redeem the game through PlayStation Plus weren’t able to take advantage of the PS5 upgrade and had to purchase the game separately.
Thankfully, there are ways around this restriction. One is to purchase the game physically. If you manage to buy a copy of Days Gone at a retailer, you’ll be able to put in the disc and pay the $10 upgrade fee to move the version to Days Gone Remastered. Of course, you’ll need the disc each time you play the game, similar to how it works for all other games.
If you can’t go physical, you’ll have to just suck it up and pay R949 for the full game. If you do own another digital copy, or manage to get the disc, the upgrade will set you back around R180.
Days Gone Remastered is set to launch on 25 April for PS5 and PC. The game comes amid a strange time at PlayStation following the cancellation of over ten live-service games. Reports claimed that Sony also rejected the original Days Gone 2 pitch. Hopefully, Days Gone Remastered sells like crazy and the company sees the value in working on a sequel.
