Trophy hunters getting ready to earn their platinum in Final Fantasy XVI will have to prepare for a long slog. It has been confirmed that the game’s end-game mode called Final Fantasy Mode needs to be completed in order to unlock a Gold trophy on the PS5.
Square Enix confirmed this during a special pre-release stream for Final Fantasy XVI detailing the game’s end-game content and various challenges that await players at the end of the game.

Square Enix says that once you complete Final Fantasy XVI, the level cap is raised to 100 as you unlock the New Game+ Mode (also known as Final Fantasy Mode). Here, you can then further grind to reach that new level while also fighting challenging enemies found in the game.
Essentially, players will be replaying the main campaign of Final Fantasy XVI in New Game+ Mode but it will contain new challenging foes to take down. The New Game+ Mode also unlocks the ability to craft the Ultima Weapon, an iconic staple gear item throughout the series.
Your current level, possessions and abilities are all carried over to the game’s Final Fantasy Mode. Challenges you found in the main campaign will also have new settings to work through. For example, Arete Stone challenges will now let players choose the Ultimania difficulty as well as Chronolith Trials which is a Hard time attack setting.
In the end, after you complete the game in Final Fantasy Mode, you’ll then unlock the Gold trophy for PS5. There might be other trophies you’ll need to go back and clean up. The trophy list, which you can view below at your own discretion, details some of the activities needed.
