While the previous console generations celebrated price drops across PS3, PS2 and Xbox, we are living in a strange time. Strange enough that Sony has increased the price of the PS5. The announcement was made two weeks ago when the company revealed newly-adjusted price tags for the PS5 Disc Model and Digital Edition. While at first South Africa didn’t get its new price listing, Sony has now adjusted the RRP for the console in the country and you can expect to pay up to R1300 more than before.
The PlayStation 5 prices in South Africa have seen a substantial increase, especially across Sony’s PS5 Digital Edition console. While the Disc Model increased by R500, the Digital Edition has gone up by more than double that. You’ll pay R1300 more to get the disc-less console in South Africa.
Adjusted PS5 Price in South Africa
- PlayStation 5 Disc Model – R12,499 / Was R11,999
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – R11,299 / Was R9,999
Sony is also currently selling a PS5 Digital Edition console with Horizon Forbidden West. That bundle will set you back R12,999.
At the moment, the current pricing will affect all incoming stock which is expected to arrive in South Africa on 30 September. Keep in mind that accessories won’t be affected by this price increase. You’ll be able to purchase the upcoming PS5 Grey Camouflage accessories including the DualSense Controller for R1,499, Faceplate Cover for R999 and 3D Pulse Wireless Headset for R1,999.

If you want to secure a PS5 make sure you pre-order it asap. There are limited standalone bundles available at these listed prices and we rarely see Sony selling the PS5 without accessories that bloat up the price tag.
Nexus Hub currently has the PS5 up for pre-order starting with the Digital Edition for R11,299. There’s also the Disc Model for R12,499 and the Horizon Forbidden West bundle for R12,999. See links below:
