YouTube is rolling out a new rounded-corner video style that is literally just that – rounded corners. Instead of seeing the square edges on videos, you’ll now see some clean rounded edges on the sides instead.
The company says that users should see them soon (if you haven’t already) because they are released worldwide. The rounded corners also match the platform’s thumbnails next to the video so it makes sense YouTube followed the same design.

The rounded thumbnails are now seen across the entire platform now too. They are present on YouTube Shorts and the home page. So when clicking through to a video, you should see the same thing.
The rounded corners follow the recent changes YouTube has made to the platform. The company recently introduced an ambient backlight on the video player which would cause a glow behind the video playback. Personally, I think Ambient Mode is a bit dark and you often forget it is enabled in the first place.
It is nice to see YouTube refining some design elements on the platform. Perhaps it will get users to disable their ad-blocker which will soon be enforced across the entire platform alongside a countdown.
