YouTube Pause Screen Ads Rolling Out

YouTube is now rolling out ads across your paused videos. The adverts will see pop-ups appear across the video player when you have paused it to say, check your phone or do something else on the side. These YouTube pause screen ads are static…. for now.

The streaming platform has confirmed with advertisers that pause video ads have proven to be a great success during its trial run in limited regions. According to YouTube, these ads saw “strong advertiser and strong viewer response” which prompted the platform to roll them out immediately.

Keep in mind that these pause-screen video ads aren’t new. YouTube already tested them out back in 2023 in certain regions with limited advertisers on board. Earlier this year Google claimed these ads were a hit and saw promising engagement apart from the usual in-video ads.

Last week, users started seeing these pause screen ads pop up in the United States but it wasn’t confirmed to be a feature yet. YouTube has now greenlit them for the platform globally.

So from now on, you’ll see banners across your pause screen. This goes for the YouTube TV apps as well as desktop and mobile. Of course, if you subscribe to YouTube Premium, you’ll get an ad-free experience.

On that note, Google recently announced that YouTube Premium would see new paid options roll out for the service soon too. We don’t know what these are yet but the company claimed these tiers would offer more options for viewers to subscribe to the service.

I am personally hoping for a cheaper YouTube Premium without YouTube Music. This is something a few people have asked for. Not everyone uses YouTube Music especially if you have Spotify or Apple Music. To pay half the price for no ads on YouTube would be a dream. Until then, I will keep blocking ads.

I paused my video and this showed up
