Following the termination of EA Games’ contract with Prima Interactive, ZAMZAM Distribution has announced that the Middle Eastern video distribution company will now be handling physical media in South Africa.
Last week, we reported that EA Games ceased all physical operations in South Africa after laying off 1500 employees worldwide and terminating its distribution contract with Prima Interactive. This came as a result of the weak Pound to Rand exchange rate which caused new EA Games releases to skyrocket in price at retail in the country. So much so that new releases would cost R1,499 compared to their digital versions at R1,099.

While details are still a bit sketchy, ZAMZAM Distribution posted an update on its Linkedin page announcing the news. The post reads:

While this is good news for the country, we still don’t know anything about this arrangement. According to Prima Interactive, the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will not be handled by the company at all in South Africa. This means unless ZAMZAM Distribution can get operations going by the time the game releases, it will officially skip its physical release here.
Of course, we still have a lot of questions about this news. Will ZAMZAM Distribution be able to bring new EA Games releases into South Africa at a competitive price compared to the cheaper digital stores? Does this announcement mean gamers will finally be able to order some of those fancy Collector’s Editions EA Games has been releasing which don’t land here? Hopefully, we’ll get some concrete information soon.
In the meantime, you can follow ZAMZAM Distribution across its various channels by visiting its Linktree here.
