Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom Surpasses Hogwarts Legacy Launch Sales

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom has sold 54% more than Hogwarts Legacy did at launch. It has also become the largest video game release of 2023 so far.

While Nintendo hasn’t shared any exact details regarding the sales of the game, GI.Biz reports that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom has already outsold Skyward Sword and A Link Between Worlds. Tears of The Kingdom is now the fourth best-selling Zelda game in the series and will continue to climb up this chart as the weeks go by.

The report claims that the game hasn’t managed to make the same mark as last year’s Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. However, the game’s exact sales figures won’t be measured until next month. The game will likely surpass Pokemon Scarlet and Violet when these numbers are reassessed in the weeks ahead.

In comparison to Breath of The Wild, Tears of The Kingdom is 173% bigger. This is a no-brainer given how fragile the Nintendo brand was when Breath of The Wild was launched. It was a release title for the Nintendo Switch and a release on the Wii U too. Both consoles didn’t have a large player base at the time.

The big surprise here is how many of these sales were physical. Nintendo fans have opted to buy The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom in physical form. This is likely due to Nintendo’s past history of removing digital games and closing down storefronts online.
