In Zenless Zone Zero, levelling up your Agents and upgrading their various skills can noticeably improve their effectiveness in combat. If you want to further maximise and enhance their offensive capabilities and stats, however, you’re going to want to equip a handful of Drive Discs tailored to their specific attack type and combat role. Unfortunately, dealing with the Drive Disc system, especially if you’ve had zero experience with similar item types from prior HoYoverse titles (like Genshin Impact’s Artifacts), it can come across as somewhat confusing.
To drive off any potential frustration, here’s a thorough explanation of the underlying mechanics behind these handy tools, and how to obtain them. Every character may have up to six Drive Discs equipped at any given time, and each available slot or partition (numbered from 1-6) comes with its own predetermined or randomly generated base stat – in addition to a maximum of 4 bonus random sub-stats.
Base Stats for all Partitions
- Partition 1: Always numerical HP value
- Partition 2: Always numerical ATK value
- Partition 3: Always numerical DEF value
- Partition 4: Either HP/ATK/DEF/CRIT Rate/CRIT DMG percentage value, or Anomaly Proficiency numerical value
- Partition 5: HP/ATK/DEF/Element DMG Bonus (of any type)/PEN Ratio percentage value
- Partition 6: HP/ATK/DEF/Anomaly Mastery/Impact/Energy Regen percentage value
Potential Random Sub-Stats
Regardless of equip slot, the randomly generated list of sub-stats always pulls from the same pool. Here are all the possible variations of Drive Disc sub-stats obtainable.
- HP/ATK/DEF/PEN/Anomaly Proficiency numerical value
- HP/ATK/DEF/CRIT Rate/CRIT DMG percentage value
Set Bonuses
While increasing the level of Drive Discs raises all obtained base stat values in Zenless Zone Zero, up to two extra effects can be triggered when equipping multiple copies of the same Disc type to a character – referred to as a 2-set or a 4-set bonus. For example, slotting in two copies of the Swing Jazz Drive Disc nets the Agent a 20% increase to their Energy Regen, while opting for a full 4-piece set grants a 12 second 15% DMG increase to all party members after performing a Chain Attack or Ultimate.
Ideally, you’ll want to settle on two different Disc types that cater to your character’s specialities and prioritise equipping those – one 4-piece set and one 2-piece set, for the most utility.
Obtaining Drive Discs
If you’ve been playing Zenless Zone Zero for a while now and still haven’t touched Drive Discs, don’t worry about it. It takes a while to unlock all related features associated with the crafting of and grinding for specific Discs. Reaching Inter-Knot level 25 unlocks the Bardic Needle music shop on Sixth Street, where you’re able to specify which type of Disc you want and roll the gacha (called “tuning” here) for a copy with a random rarity and slot number.
Upgrading the store over time by raising your Inter-Knot level unlocks more tuning options down the line. At Inter-Knot level 26, after completing the Chapter 2 story commission “Trace to the Source”, Routine Cleanup activities are unlocked – repeatable content that lets you grind for the Discs you want, as well as Plating Agents that grant Drive Disc XP.
