Comic Con Africa Guest Spotlight – Jamie Campbell Bower

After a two-year break, Comic Con Africa is back with a four-day festival of all things geeky. From a focus on comic books, tabletop games, pop culture, movies and TV, as well as cosplay and gaming. Comic Con Africa truly offers something for everyone. One of the biggest draws to the event has always been its international guest stars, and this year is no different.

With Comic Con Africa only eight short days away, we at Glitched spent some time doing little deep dives into the guests so that our readers can be fully caught up on who’s who when the event rolls by. So without further ado, here is everything you should know about Jamie Campbell Bower before seeing him at Comic Con Africa next week.

“People can hate on you for doing what it is that makes you happy, but ultimately, it has to belong to you. It shouldn’t matter what anyone else thinks” – Jamie Campbell Bower

Jamie Campbell Bower was born in London to two very musical parents. Growing up, Jamie always felt pulled toward music and performing. As a young child, Jamie started playing the violin and would go on to become a member of the National Youth Music Theatre and National Youth Theatre programs.

Jamie’s career started quickly when his friend Laura Michelle Kelly recommended his name to a specialist, leading to his first movie role in 2007 alongside Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in Sweeny Todd.

Jamie would then star in two of the world’s most popular movie franchises when he landed roles in the Twilight saga and Harry Potter. In 2014 Jamie took home a Teen Choice award for his role in The Mortal Instruments before making his on-stage debut with Bend It Like Beckham in 2015.

Throughout his time acting, Jamie has always held onto and nurtured his love for music, even starting up his own band called Counterfeit before going solo and regularly releasing original music onto his official YouTube channel.

“I’d love to be a part of ‘Star Wars.’ I’d be a Sith, of course – I’m English! We’ve got the voice, and it’s perfect for the bad guys” – Jamie Campbell Bower

Over the last ten years, Jamie Campbell Bower has put a pretty impressive acting portfolio together. With his role as Young Grindelwald in both the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises, as well as playing Caius in The Twilight Saga and being one of tv’s most iconic villains with his role of Vecna in Stranger Things.

But even with a career as undoubtedly successful as Jamie’s, there is still a lot to learn about him. For example, who would have guessed that the man behind Elevens nightmares is also an avid skateboarder?

One only needs to head to his social media to see his love for the sport. Jame often Tweets about his morning skate sessions at London’s skate parks and is known to share photos of his skating on Instagram. In an interview with Interview Magazine, Jamie said he would love to make or be involved in a skating movie somewhere down the line.
