A Nintendo Direct Will Reportedly Take Place Next Week

Hot on the heels of last night’s PlayStation State of Play event, it seems like Nintendo might have plans to host a new Nintendo Direct event next week. This is according to XboxEra podcast host Nick Baker who accurately leaked some of the big announcements from the recent State of Play. Nick claims that the Direct will happen sometime next week but didn’t offer any more details.

2024 is shaping up to be a very big year for Nintendo. It’s heavily rumoured that the company will release its next console, the successor to the Switch, by the end of the year. Thanks to plenty of leaks that claim it will be an iteration of the Switch and features an 8-inch LED screen, we have a rough idea of what to expect from the new hardware. However, it’s unclear when Nintendo actually plans on unveiling its next system.

If you’re hoping that the next Nintendo Direct might be that big event where we’ll see the Switch 2 (or whatever it will be called), it’s highly unlikely to be the case. Next week’s Direct could simply outline games we already know will release this year for Switch including Princess Peach: Showtime, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Splatoon 3‘s DLC Side Order and other smaller projects. Thereafter, a bigger Nintendo Direct event could be planned for summer that blows the lid open on its next-gen plans.

However, at least we might be getting a less-eventful but still significant Nintendo Direct next week. YouTuber Nintendo Prime says that Nick Baker appeared in one of his streams and commented on Nintendo hosting an event next week (via Reddit). Considering that he was on the money about the State of Play announcements, there could be some credibility to Nick’s claims. As with all rumours and reports, take it with a pinch of salt and let’s see if Nintendo announces something soon.
