Avatar Frontiers of Pandora How to Get Ikran Flight

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – How to Get an Ikran and Take Flight

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the latest open-world Ubisoft game based on the Avatar movies from James Cameron, is a truly massive experience, both in its world and scope of the landscape. With plenty of floating rocks and islands to explore, you’ll need to do more than just dash around the land on foot. Here’s how you can get your own Ikran beast and take flight.

Before you can acquire your Ikran to begin flying around the map in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, players will first need to progress a decent chunk of the main quest. The quest “Take Flight” will eventually pop up that tasks your Na’vi with meeting Eetu and Nefika at the entrance of the Ikran Rookery. Here, you’ll attempt to bond with an Ikran and win its approval through a series of visually stunning platforming challenges as you ascend the slopes.

While most of the platforming is fairly straight-forward, it might be easy to be spun around and lose your direction (this happened to me a few times). Your Na’vi senses don’t really work in this quest as it’s tricky to navigate the winding vines, floating rocks and platforms, so making a run for the objective in the distance, like on land, is out of the question. Instead, oberve your surroundings and carefully trek the path upwards.

You’ll eventually run into an Ikran which you’ll have to soothe. However, the first and second attempts will be a failure as the Ikran flies away. Continue up the path until you arrive at a seemingly blocked path with a massive Gateway Lily. It’s not obvious how to progress first but players will need to shoot the two smaller leaves on each side of the Gateway Lily to open it. Alternatively, if you’ve got the skill, you can also use the bouncing lilys at the bottom to time your jump and catapult up to the higher platform – though this is much trickier to pull off.

Follow the path a little longer until you finally come face-to-face with your Ikran (who you accidentally hit with a slingshot that sealed its beak shut). Hold square to soothe the beast and approach it slowly to remove the sling, earning its respect. You can then name it and give it your own design and colour, even equip some gear.

You’ve now unlocked the Ikran, who can be summoned at any time by pressing up on your controller. This will make exploring Pandora and traversing the environment much easier.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is now available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Make sure you also check out our other guide on how to unlock the game’s Gold, Ultimate and pre-order content.
