Final Fantasy XVI Demo Listed on PlayStation Store

Final Fantasy XVI, the highly anticipated upcoming action-RPG from Square Enix, is hot on its way later this month and we’ve heard plenty of rumours about a potential demo coming before launch. While the publisher has yet to officially announce the release date, it looks like the PlayStation Store has accidentally leaked a demo ahead of its reveal, suggesting that a release is imminent.

The listing was spotted on the PlayStation Store digital front recently by the Final Fantasy XVI subreddit, which revealed that an icon for the demo is currently up on the store. However, the demo listing apparently isn’t viewable unless you’re using a mobile phone to browse the storefront, though only some users have reported actually finding it. It seems like Square Enix might be gearing up to drop the demo sometime soon, available for all fans to try out before launch.

Square Enix has been pretty consistent with dropping demos for all major upcoming games. Final Fantasy VII Remake, Forspoken, Valkyrie Elysium and more titles from the company have all received playable demos shortly before launch and Final Fantasy XVI will be no different. It’s hard to tell exactly how much content will be packed into the demo or if it will be similar to the preview builds that media outlets got a chance to play a month ago. We’ll just have to sit tight and wait for an announcement at this point.

Final Fantasy XVI is the sixteenth mainline installment in the long-running Final Fantasy RPG franchise. Instead of the series’ traditional turn-based combat, the game will implement a more action-heavy approach to its real-time battles, which many have compared to Devil May Cry. That shouldn’t come as a surprise as Devil May Cry 5‘s combat designer Ryota Suzuki is behind this game too.

Final Fantasy XVI launches on 22 June 2023 exclusively for PS5.
