Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie Reportedly Casts Vanessa

Following the news that Scream actor Matthew Lillard had been cast as William Afton alongside Josh Hutcherson in the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, a new report suggests that another character from the indie horror game series has also been cast. Netflix’s You actress Elizabeth Lail will apparently play Vanessa in the upcoming live-action adaptation from Blumhouse.

The report comes from scooper Daniel Richtman, who claims that Lail will play Vanessa, a character better known from the latest game Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach. This might be a tad bit confusing for most fans as Vanessa is a character that doesn’t appear in the original game, which the movie is seemingly based on. That said, neither does William Afton except for some in-game notice boards mentioning his murders, so we’ll have to see how that unfolds.

Last month, Blumhouse confirmed that it was moving ahead with a live-action Five Nights at Freddy’s movie after several attempts over the years to get it made under different studios. Lillard was the first to be cast as the franchise’s serial killer and main antagonist William Afton. The actor also portrayed the Ghostface killer in 1996’s Scream as well as Shaggy in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies.

Josh Hutcherson was also added to the cast around the same time as security officer Mike Schmidt, the protagonist of the first game, who is strongly believed to be William’s son Michael by fans of the lore. Hutcherson is best known for playing Peeta in The Hunger Games as well as other movies like Bridge to Terabithia and Zathura: A Space Adventure.

As with all rumours and reports, take Lail’s casting with a pinch of salt. Blumhouse hasn’t confirmed the actresses involvement in the project yet but if this is true, we should hear from the studio soon. The live-action Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is expected to begin filming this February.
