Lies of P Sequel to be Built Using Unreal Engine 5

Lies of P might have stumbled a bit during the 2023 video game awards season but the game was undoubtedly one of last year’s biggest sleeper hits. Dozens of developers all around the world have struggled and failed to capture the soulslike magic, Neowiz hit the nail on the head with Lies of P. So much so that the game was a huge success for the developer.

Neowiz has already confirmed that Lies of P will be getting a sequel sometime in the future. The studio also confirmed that DLC is currently in the works for the game. However, while the original 2023 soulslike hit was originally created in Unreal Engine 4, alongside the upcoming DLC, Neowiz is seemingly moving over to Unreal Engine 5 for the sequel.

According to a new job listing, Neowiz is currently hiring a “planner in charge of localization” to work on a project in Unreal Engine 5. The job listing mentions “P’s Lies’ next project” as the description which definitely confirms the sequel is attached to this job listing.

Considering the original game was built in Unreal Engine 4 and released for current and last-gen consoles, it makes sense for Neowiz to move over to Unreal Engine 5. Not only does it provide a robust toolset for modern video game visuals but it also means the Lies of P sequel can be bigger and better than the original – it will obviously look stunning too. Not that the original game didn’t look good.

Of course, we will likely hear more about the DLC soon and we are still a few years away from playing the actual sequel to Lies of P. However, the Unreal Engine 5 news is exciting. Lords of the Fallen, which was also built in Unreal Engine 5, looked fantastic even if the gameplay was seriously mediocre. It stands as a visual benchmark for what the engine is capable of.
