Space Invaders Movie Moving Forward and Writer Announced

The name Space Invaders might give old-school gamers some chills. The first game released all the way back in 1978 as a classic arcade title and it is one of the most iconic games ever created, but it doesn’t exactly have much of a plot. Five years ago, the Space Invaders movie was announced but since then, things have been very quite.

Thankfully, the Space Invaders movie isn’t dead, as production is moving forward. Over the weekend, we reported on the Mortal Kombat reboot movie and the writer announcing that for the first time ever, this Mortal Kombat film will feature fatalities and have an R-Rating. Now, that same writer has been revealed as the writer for the Space Invaders movie.

Warner Bros purchased the rights to Space Invaders several years ago and now, New Line has hired Greg Russo to write the script for the upcoming Space Invaders movie. This news was reported by Deadline and Greg Russo confirmed it by tweeting out the article and talking about how Space Invaders was the first game he ever played.

Greg clearly a passion for gaming (with his Xbox Game Score reportedly over 1 million) and I, for one, am very excited to see what he can bring to the table with the Space Invaders movie.

At the time of writing, no release date or trailer for the Space Invaders movie has been released, but it is sure to pull in those old-school gamers, including myself.
